Stalling has nothing to do with the ABS unless you have a voltage problem. On a diesel a plugged fuel filter can cause some real strange symptoms. In any case I would be cleaning the battery connections and checking the voltage on the battery.
What did the mechanic say about the stalling symptom?
When it stalled did it start up normally or did it crank slowly?
Change fuel filters, check the battery and voltage, pull the ABS fuse, hit the road and find a better mechanic when you get home. If it acts weird on the road start the generator and prop the boost/aux start button so it supplies voltage to the engine and battery.
