Studying the B+ market

We are studying the B+ market for our first RV. We are nowhere close to making a purchase, but right now we're leaning toward the Monaco Montclair (25') and the Winnebago View/ViewProfile models. A decision we will eventually have to make is whether we want gasoline or diesel. We don't what questions to ask ourselves, or what points to consider, before we decide which way to go. So we would appreciate assistance from those of you who have already been through this stage and request that you help us with those questions we need to answer before selecting gas or diesel. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Thanks for the valuable input. I noticed that you have a Navion. How does it differ from the View?

Navion and View are the same except for some color differences on interior and exterior.

The diesel is good unless the smoke, shake, smell would brother you, and then the high cost to fix everything in a diesel is very bad to. They make some real good soap you can use on the carpet to get up the oil today. Other than that they are pretty cool.

You obviously haven't been around a V6 Sprinter. No shake or smoke. You can put your face in front of the exhaust (I have to when leveling sometimes) without issues.
  • We have an Aspect class C.
Looked at smaller C's like the view.
Just prefer gas over diesel for our use and a little more room.
  • Go to the Winnebago website and compare the Aspect to the View. Besides floor plans and cost, take a good look at the specifications page in regards to tank capacities, storage space, and towing capacity. Make sure all of these meet your needs.

First off I would suggest you drive both of them. There is a world of difference in the cab between the E Series and Sprinter, how they drive and what it's like to be in in the cab on the road.

Also you need to know how much stuff you want to carry/tow. The Monaco will likely have a higher cargo capacity (known as OCCC) and should have a higher combined gross weight rating.

The Winnie will beat the Monaco in on fuel economy but has a smaller tank than most Fords so the Ford may have more range per tank. If you do your own periodic maintenance the Sprinter is pretty easy to work on....lots of room under the hood and good access. Fords, well not so much....small hood 10 lbs of engine in a 5 lb bag...

The Sprinter cab chassis costs more than a Ford so it shows up in the final price of the RV. Ford long ago amortized much of the cost of the E series...it's an old design (and it shows in many ways).

There is a new version of the Sprinter coming out next year so it will likely be showing up on 2015 (or so) RVs. It will have more magic safety stuff and tech wizardry than the current Sprinter (additions beyond stability control, like cross wind assist).
