Stupid Pet Policies
We're getting ready to head down to Florida for a few weeks, and one of our stops was to be at Jetty Park, Cape Canaveral. The pet policy at that establishment reads as follows:
We were pretty sure that the underlined text was a mistake, so we called. Nope--not a mistake and they're quite zealous about enforcing the policy. Supposedly, Jetty Park follows "state law" that prohibits leaving animals unattended in vehicles. For purposes of protecting animals, it seems pretty stupid, even by Florida standards, to consider a dog in a heated/air-conditioned RV as "unattended in a vehicle." Heck, we even leave the TV going so the dogs can keep up with the news. They're better off in the RV than they are in the house.
Anyone ever heard of such a thing? Any prospect of talking some sense into the proprietors? Any other suggestions?
- Jetty Park Campground is pet-friendly on a limited basis, and pet owners will be held responsible for their pets at all times. Rabies expiration papers are required. Pets cannot be left unattended at any time and must remain on a leash. You may not leave your pet inside your RV if you leave the campground.. Two pet limit per site. The fee is $2.00 per pet per night. Pets are allowed only in Class A, B, and C units and travel trailers. Pets are not allowed inside any cabin. Pets are not allowed outside the campground. Pets must be walked in the designated pet walk areas ONLY. Campers are responsible for cleaning up after their pet(s). Pet owners who are not in compliance will be asked to leave the park with no refund.
