Genset should take the place of shore power for all practical purposes and for doing the same thing. As to whether, either will charge the chassis battery, depends on the design of the coach, as some will and some won't. All will charge the house batteries, however.
Our's does both and auto switches over to the chassis, once the house batteries reach a certain level, but again, it's not a given.
