- dcbrewerExplorerI bought 10, 5 ot jugs at Wal Mart for 22.95 ea. Mobil 1, it is all I use.
- rgatijnet1Explorer IIIEvery owner's manual states what type of oil should be used based on viscosity, synthetic or non-synthetic, SAE, API, ILSAC, ATSM , etc ratings on the bottle. I don't know of any that specify what BRAND of oil to use. It just must meet the manufacturer's specs.
As long as you use an oil that meets the manufacturer's specs, I really don't see any difference in oil brands, except with price. - RLS7201Explorer III used Walmart Super Tech in my 460 Bounder for over 80,000 miles. Replaced engine with a stroker. The old engine still looked almost new inside. No wear on cam and lifters. 0.0015" taper on #1 cylinder wall. At 140,000 miles, it used a ½ quart of oil in 5,000 miles.

Actually they are a blender, as many are. They buy their base stocks and additives from various suppliers. Very common practice with many "manufacturers".
From their web site;
If all AMSOIL motor oils were API licensed, the company could not source new raw materials from multiple suppliers, which would greatly increase the threat of supply disruption and the likelihood of extraordinarily high prices. To solve this problem, the API must establish base stock interchange guidelines for synthetic base stocks just as they have for other base stocks, as well as develop interchange guidelines for other components too. Furthermore, licensing formulas limits the ability to quickly adopt new technologies as they are discovered; each variation from the originally licensed formula requires re-submission for complete engine testing (see the Ask AMSOIL entry above for more information).
As to the OPs original question, while not the synthetic, I use their dino oil in my gas farm tractors, and have for years. It seems to be working as well as any other oil I've ever used. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIWell Mobile 1, and Amsoil last I knew were TRUE lab created synthetics.
Most other "Synthitics" are really very highly refined Dino Oil (Source Shell Rotella Presentation at an FMCA rally)
Odds are the Wal*mart store label brand is really a well known brand re-labeled. - down_homeExplorer IIAfter I first replied I started looking on the Internet for more information about real Synthetics, currently, and dino based so called Synthetics which are just more refined dino oil.
I looked at a number of sites and did not bookmark them.
Amsoil of course does not refine or manufacture its oil products according to the two or three sites I looked at.
This is a general discussion and I just repeated what I read. I've not been able to post links here so I didn't even think about it.
I spent about half an hour at one time and mybe that long the second time.
My second search term was who makes Euro Spec oil in the US which is where I found the info or the third which was who sells Euro Spec oil in the US where I found three or four US labels selling Euro Spec rel synthetic oil and that Amazon carried some brands. - amxpressExplorer

Walmart.com has Mobil 1 listed at $6.13/qt. Amazon.com has Mobil 1 listed at $7.20/qt with free shipping.
Euro Spec vs US dino base.
52.72for 2x5 qt jugs is 5.20 a qt.
I paid over 10.00 qt for Mobil1 10w40 us spec at Wal Mart here. - NMDriver2ExplorerI use it on all 4 or my vehicles, all with over 150K miles and no issues. Sent a oil sample in from the Duramax at 125K and it came back that I still had 75% of the oil life remaining after 10,000 miles. I also use the Fram filters designed for Synthetic oil from Walmart.

Yes I have been using it for the last 80k miles and 12 years. It keeps the engine much cleaner than the regular oil I previously used.
Was looking in Walmart and saw this oil. It's cheaper than the Castrol full synthetic I usually get. Has any one used it? Is it any good?
