On an old Class C, we had to run the water heater a while to release air bubbles in the propane lines to get the furnace to start. Furnaces have safety devices that sense when gas supply is good and won't let the furnace ignite with air bubbles in the line.
You should hear a sizzling or tiny whistling sound when spark ignition is trying to start the furnace.
