surge protector/ EMS

Who uses a surge protector/EMS and which did you choose? I am interested in a 30 amp unit and I noticed the prices range from affordable to very expensive.
This past trip our AC, microwave, & coffee pot kept blowing the breaker at the pole. I suspect the pole as the fault, but invested too much money to guess. Should I get a surge protector/EMS? And which one is best without refinancing the B+? What should I look for in deciding?

thanks

  • I also have the Progressive Industries EMS. In addition to the surge protection, it is important to get over/under voltage, open neutral, open ground, and reverse polarity protection as well. no matter what brand you buy. Low voltage can damage items with induction motors such as your A/C. If someone miswires an RV outlet as if it were a dryer outlet (240 vs 120) it can burn out every piece of electrical equipment in your B+.

Installed my PI unit in 2015 and have had several occasions where it has disconnected my MH due to low voltage in a campground. Beats the heck out of possibly burning up the A/C. If you get the PI unit, get the remote display with it too. Is cheap and it shows you the current voltage, current amp draw, and the reason for disconnecting if it detects a fault.
  • Spend the money for a Progressive Ind unit and it will pay for itself should it ever be needed. One zap from a power pole screw up could wipe out All your electronics in a second. Let the Progressive unit do the work.
  • I agree wholeheartedly with the advice not to get a cheap one. I bought a Progressive Industries unit

    and have never regretted it.

  • You don't want a cheap one. There is too much at risk. It would cost a lot to replace/repair all your major appliances.
Progresssive Industries has the best specs, great customer service and a lifetime warranty.
