surge protector?

Just purchased my first motorhome (2002 Chateau Sport) and was wondering if I NEED a surge & voltage protector. I read many threads that indicate that I must purchase one; however, the cost is a tad bit expensive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  • Two years ago we were camped in a full hookup in Wash St. Stupid me, I put my surge protector away to get a early start the next morning. Not 5 min later we had low voltage and in just seconds it took out my ref, a/c/ heater. I sold my TT because of the cost to replace. Now I wish that I kept and replaced them since I cannot find a front kitchen with 14 ft slide and under 34 ft. I highly
recommend surge protection !!!! This was the first time that I ever had anything fried in over 55 years of camping but that's all it takes
  • I don't have one and have never needed one. However, I don't have much in the way of electronics in the camper. We don't have a TV, Sat receiver, DVD, or surround sound like many people. Our microwave was $30 at Walmart. Other than the air conditioner everything else is 12v.
If you have a lot of expensive electronic gear in the RV a surge protector can start to make sense.
