I think deciding not to mount on the front is the limiting factor- and hanging 40 pounds of bike on the front might be better for balance than adding 40 pounds on the back- in addition to a carrier.
We use the rear doors alot- ( chev- 2 doors)- adding a creen kit to expand our space- for that reason a carrier, rack etc is not as much a plus for us. Our van came with a carrier which is sitting- I have been thinking a hinged stowaway type might be better.
mulling that over- we are doing ok with our interior storage space(s)
at some point rather than hanging stuff and boxes all over the exterior of a B van, a larger motorhome might be the better choice.
* surprised this last trip from PHX to Oregon and back how many bicycles we saw on road or shoulder which looked to have fallen off of racks ( and a couple of sleeping bags)
