I don't know about your situation, but every diesel I've owned, the engine mfg required (at a max) a one year oil change interval (I've never been able to max out the maximum mileage requirement). So, I've always figured that going to a synthetic didn't provide me with any additional gain and I've always just stuck with Shell Rotella T 15w-40 dino oil.
I've never read anywhere that going from synthetic to dino is detrimental to a diesel engine.
