Switching to 4-flat towing

If it s 4x4, which you suggested, I am pretty sure it CANNOT be towed on a dolly.

I tow a heavy Cadillac and use the SMI Plug & Play braking system with the Blue-Ox system. Love it, easy to hook up and works perfectly for us.

exactly which blue ox broke on him? was it not rated for the weight being towed? my blue ox is rated for 10,000 lbs. what was his? was it properly maintained.
a little "factual information" would be helpful to see if your post has any merit.

When my Roadmaster fell apart during a tow I switched to Blue Ox about 15 years ago. I never have had any more issues but I did replace my Blue Ox after about 100,000 miles of towing. Blue Ox gave me a very good deal on a trade in.

Blue Ox makes a few different tow bars.. Mine is the 5,000 pound rated one that stows on the Motor home. I love it, I've had one problem, NOT THE FAULT OF BLUE OX!!!!! but they fixed it no charge.. I stress it WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM!! They still went well above and beyond.

(NOTE: I do know what happened and who is to blame)

ON brakes.. There are several types of braking systems... Some are a box you put in the driver's seat every time you tow (or in front of it) and remove to drive, I DO NOT recommend these systems because of the following:
1: Though they say "no installation" fact is you install every time you tow,. and every install is a chance to mess up (Like the installer did on my brake system)(

2: You have to store them SECURLY when driving.. else they can grow legs.

3: "Oh, it's only a few miles.. I'll just forget it this CRASH OH C### I should hav einstalled it" (I actually have heard from some folks who admitted it.

An Installed system is much easier to deal with.. Some are 100% Transarant (you do not hook up anything save the break away cable)

Blue Ox has the AUTO-STOP, which is a surge brake.. Now Surge Brakes DO HAVE A DANGER if you live in the great salty north (The cable sizes up like a Parking brake cable) but you can easily check for that when you hook up.

That is the system I'm looking at.. Ready Brake (Comes with Ready Brut tow bar) more or less the same thing.

My brother had. a blue ox break on the San Francisco bay bridge, not a good experience. I have used Roadmaster on 2 cars and about 70K miles. It has never let me down. Have had a SMI brake and now a RVi brake. I prefer a non-evasive breaking system. Easy to use and easy to connect and disconnect.

We use and like Blue Ox base plates, but we much prefer our ReadyBrute/ReadyBrake Elite combination tow bar/brake system over the other choices. The aluminum all-terrain tow bar is rated at 8,000 lbs, and the built in ReadyBrake brake system is a simple mechanical setup with few potential failure points and NO electronics. Hooking up the brake system is as simple as snapping a clip on a cable eyelet.

I used a blue ox tow bar, aventa II with a brake buddy braking system for years without problems

Check the vehicles manual to see HOW you must tow your toad.

When deciding which braking system to use?
If I had 'do overs', I would NOT use the Brake Buddy type that you have to hook up to your brake pedal where you have to get on your knees to shove that darn thing in between the seat and brake pedal and then adjust it, etc, etc. And reverse process upon arrival.

I found it to be a REAL pain literally in the back!

Research or use forum members suggestion on the type of newer braking/tow system that is automatic and all in one.

BLUE_OX is a great system. Using it for years, with a Roadmaster towbar. Your problem will be to determine if your Chevy is TOWABLE 4 down.
