“A lack of oil or dirty oil will become a $7000 mistake!”
I can think of a couple reasons to run a full synthetic oil. You get a better detergent package to keep your HEUI pump clean and free of deposits. You also get better lubricating oil (flows faster to critical parts) that will prevent wear to your HEUI pump and turbo. I would think if I was worried about a $7000 repair bill I would use the best oil I could get not the cheapest or one that may just get by.

“Amzoil is a LUBRICANT, it is not oil, it is synthetic. So it is a different critter entirely,, Takes the place of Oil though, Mixes well with Oil though, but it is not oil since it never came out of a hole in the ground.”
Great marketing line but if something is made to be oil it is still oil it may be a better quality than most crude based oils but…..
Motor oils are derived from base stocks. That is, a generic oil base is modified with additives to produce a lubricant with the desired properties. A base stock oil with no additives would not perform very well at all. Base stocks are classified by the American Petroleum Institute (API) and fall into one of five categories.
Group I and II - these are mineral oils derived from crude oil
Group III - this is a highly refined mineral oil made through a process called hydrocracking. In North America this group is considered a synthetic oil, for marketing purposes.
Group IV - these are true synthetic oils, known as Polyalphaolefin (PAO).
Group V - these are synthetic stocks other than PAO's and include esters and other compounds.
I will have to look but I think it is on the bottle that Mobil 1 is made from Group IV base stock. I could not find any thing on Amsoil’s site except that the formulation was proprietary.
