Relative to additive packages, the max amount of additives that can be added to an oil (either dino or synthetic) is 30-35% before the necessary lubrication qualities start to deteriorate. In a dino oil, a good share of that 30-35%, is viscosity index (VI) improver. A good synthetic oil requires no VI------thus leaving more room for detergents and other additives.
