Unfortunately it is.
Technology those days go forward so fast, that by the time the engine design leaves engineer desk and actually goes into vehicle, the oil grades are already outdated.
That is one of the reason why synthetics, that suppose to be good for 25,000 miles are still following dino manuals giving them only 10,000 miles.
Few years ago, when I drove my Superduty lot of miles, I took my time and send samples of different oils at different intervals to lab for testing.
That combined with some research let me draw my own conclusions.
Test cost $25, so don't hesitate to use it.
