Standard operating procedure for us. I also am an early riser. Waiting for teens to get up would make me crazy. Only difference is I pull in all slides, nothing but electrical cord is hooked up. My toad requires keys in ignition and I don't like to leave them in at night. I use a lanyard and loop them around the steering wheel so I won't forget to unlock the igniton.
I love driving early in the morn before the traffic is heavy. It is not about slowing down to smell the roses at all. I prefer driving this time of day. when the gang rouses, I'll stop and make the second pot of coffee.
My opinion is that if you can crash a Moho then it won't make much diff if the rear occupants are belted or not based on th structure coming apart. It's one of the reasons I prefer the structural integrity of a semi monocoque over a raised rail
