I assume you mean an E550 chassis? The E550 was only made for a few years, and never super popular, but shouldn't be a big problem as most of the parts are common to various other Ford trucks or vans I think.
I think the engines are the same ones as were available in the other E series models--the 6.8L V10 if gas, or whatever the diesel engine of choice was in that year, I think the 7.3. Both the gas 6.8 and the diesel 7.3 are decent reliable engines. Some of the other Ford diesels are somewhat more problematic, I gather.
Any class C you'll find will have enough engine to get you where you want to go. None will do so with the acceleration or top speed of a sports car, or even a subcompact economy car. I personally would avoid the old Toyota motorhomes as being rather underpowered, even by motorhome standards, but they're all a lot smaller than what you're considering as well.
