Tell me about Super Cs

The E-550 was only built in the 2002 and 2003 model years. Any motorhomes built on this chassis would probably be listed as 2003 or 2004 models, as typically the chassis is one model year older than the coach (this is generally true but not always, as during the aftermath of the 2008 economic debacle it is possible to find 2010 motorhomes on 2008 chassis).

I do recall seeing a C class advertised in RV Trader on an E-550 chassis in the past few months.

I assume you mean an E550 chassis? The E550 was only made for a few years, and never super popular, but shouldn't be a big problem as most of the parts are common to various other Ford trucks or vans I think.

I think the engines are the same ones as were available in the other E series models--the 6.8L V10 if gas, or whatever the diesel engine of choice was in that year, I think the 7.3. Both the gas 6.8 and the diesel 7.3 are decent reliable engines. Some of the other Ford diesels are somewhat more problematic, I gather.

Any class C you'll find will have enough engine to get you where you want to go. None will do so with the acceleration or top speed of a sports car, or even a subcompact economy car. I personally would avoid the old Toyota motorhomes as being rather underpowered, even by motorhome standards, but they're all a lot smaller than what you're considering as well.

Had the real deal super c for 12 years. Had fun. Funmover 39c 40 ft, ford f750 chassis c7 caterpillar engine. About 7.5 mpg towing a 4 door jeep, back of the rig was a garage for carrying motorcycles, atv's sleeping and shop work.

It was fun while bit lasted. Big, tough to get into some places I now enjoy. An advantage not much discussed was the chassis maker ford built a solid product. Wires and such were where they belonged, serviceable at many ford places.weighed about 33k rolling down the road plus towed.real silid, never met a hill it liked! On ours the cab over was the master suite. You buy these for the carrying capacity. If you don't need it there's no advantage.

Depending on the needs and usage, the pro could be diesel. I would prefer a diesel C for longer trips, as they generally can reach double-digit fuel economy, even with a toad, whereas breaking 6 mpg with a toad seems to be a challenge on a regular C. My C gets a best of 8.5 mpg when I am not towing anything. Compare that to my old 38' DP that got 9.6 when loaded to the max and pulling an SUV behind it through the Rockies. If I were in the market for a used C and intended to drive long distances pulling a trailer or toad, I would definitely consider a diesel first.

For just taking the family and travelling a Class C based on the Ford or Chevy 450/4500 Chassis is plenty with the gas engines be they a 6.8 liter V-10 or the 6.0 V-8. Both will pull a 5000 lb or so Toad for side trips and do so with relative ease.

As was mentioned before Super C can by some manufacturers be nothing more than a standard C type motorhome but usually in a 32+' length box.
Others will call something "Super" for going to a heavier chassis, suspension, and a diesel engine to gain additional towing capacity. ie; someone that wants a 30+' box for the house that the rig will also be pulling a 25-30' trailer with a few toys like SxS or maybe a pair of Harleys along with dirt bikes.

I think that the only manufacturer that does is THOR. But there have been a lot of problems with the coaches. Do a search and you will find topics on them

Pro's typically diesel, power and longevity of engine, maybe a little better mpg. Con's diesel! Cost more and cost more to maintain. Oil Change is gallons not quarts. I really thing there are two sub categories of Super C's. There are the one like you are looking at with a Ford or Chevy small truck large van chassis. They you jump to the Freightliner, International durastar Chassis, Nexus, DuraMax Jayco Senaca, sorry if I missed one. These are bigger diesels like a class A diesel pusher, can be a Cummins, Cat or the like. They are animals on pulling a load. Are you towing something?
