Texas State Highway 105

Hi we're down in Louisiana right now and we're heading to Spring Texas for the next few days.

Looking at the maps it looks like turning off of the I-10 at Beaumont and heading across on State Highway 105. Just wondering what the road would be like to travel with a 45' Class A.

It looks like it should be good, but since this is our first winter down south, still trying to figure out your road system.

Thanks Trap
  • I lived off I 45 at the Woodlands and learned to drive my motorhomes in that traffic. I figured if I could do it there I could anywhere. 105 is a pretty nice drive, I also used 242 especially on a Sunday and wasn't bad. But the last few years traffic is getting worse and worse around there. Glad the drive was good for you.
  • Just wanted to thank everyone, we had a great trip to Spring today, did end up taking the 105, and it was a nice break from the I-10. The only really harry part of the trip was coming down I-45 from the 105 to Spring.

Just wanted to point out that that stretch of tollway is EZ-Tag only - no cash. So, if you don't have an EZ-Tag you need to stay on the feeder road.
  • Thanks for the replies, I think we'll try that route tomorrow.
  • Howdy!

We have a MDT and 42' 5er use 105 last week traveling from Baton Rouge to Thousand Trails Lake Conroe, not a problem. Us the by-pass around Cleveland. The 105 route is much better than going through Houston.

  • I run 105 all the time. It's your run of the mill road going thru small towns and 2 lanes most of the way.
  • 105 runs through a few small town and goes to two lanes in several spots. Truck traffic keeps most of the overhanging limbs up above 13'.

Traffic approaching Cleveland can be bad. Traffic between Cleveland and Conroe will most likely be stacked up with the usual dare devil drivers trying to pass with on coming traffic in the no passing zones. Especially around the town of Cut n' Shoot. (Yep that is its name)

Coming down I-45 from Conroe to Spring can have a lot of traffic. Watch out for the Prince and Princess' cutting across five lanes of traffic to get the the Woodlands Mall at the Woodlands.

I will tell you that they drive only a little better here than they do in Chicago.

105 is a little more scenic, I prefer that route on my motorcycle vs. riding on the Interstate. On the 105 most folks only try to drive around 70 mph. On the Interstates east of Houston most only drive 10 to 15 above posted limit but that puts me at 80 and 85 mph on a bike and that takes the fun out of it for me. West of Houston heading towards San Antonio when the speed limit increases to 75mph you will see quite a few folks running 90+ mph. I know this because I am doing 85 mph on my bike to keep from getting run over and some just pass me, others fly by me and are pushing enough air to cause my 750 lb cruiser to wiggle.
