Think I need a C

Been a B camper and really happy about it, but age is catching up with us and our needs are changing. Really love our B and that live style with the movability, fit any where, stealthness and all, but if we still want to enjoy the outdoors for several more years, concessions have to be made. Just want the shortest RV we can find, be it a B or a C (B+ or whatever).
The RV were are looking for has:
A full time made up bed (that you can walk around - that's a DW must)
A dinette/eating area (this one's mine)
The bathroom doesn't have to have a shower, porta pottie's fine!
Frig - not required, but nice
sink and cook top are nice, but not required. Micro wave is a must
TV's not wanted
Slides, rather not, simpler the better.
Not a big fan of Dodge with Fiat chassis, nor the Mercedes. Basically a Ford type guy, but there's nothing wrong with Chevy.

thanks

  • Our 2004 Tioga 26 Q (27 feet bumper to bumper) has an RV queen size bed cross-wise against the rear wall, access at foot and right side only. We use a Trav-sac sleeping bag for two that does not need to be made/unmade, helps but not perfect. Must go to longer rig or one with bedroom slide for walk-around RV queen beds. Pity!!

A Roadtrek or other van conversion is a much more versatile vehicle than a Class C or A if you can tolerate submarine-like "this turns into that"" features. We owned a Family Wagon Dodge B300 bubble top
van camper for many years and loved it for short term camping and touring as well as mom's get around vehicle. Not ideal for specific uses but very versatile. No shower, small porta potty room, 2-burner stove, ice box, awning. Gaucho U shaped couch converted to a bed, kids slept in overhead and telescoping rear overhead bed.
  • We have a Lazy Daze Mid Bath. No island bed but the two rear couches make a king size bed. We often leave the bed made and just close the door. The RV is 26.5 or 27 feet (depending if it is pre or post 2oo8). Lazy Daze did make a 26.2 ft Island bed for a little while but discontinued because of lack of sales. No slides, good CCC, solid construction, not to tall and well balanced when loaded fuel and water so it is not impossible to keep it balanced as you load your stuff. Cargo space is a little limited for a class C but not as much as your class B.

  • The LTV Unity is a well-built unit and one model has an island bed in the rear, kind of pricey though and doesn't have the dinette you desire. Look for a 2-3 year old used one to save a little money if a new one is out of reach, certainly would be for me! Check out used Coach House models too, but don't think they have any with island beds though.

This requirements kills anything less than around 30 feet. You might find an older one in the 27-28 foot range.

The LTV Unity has an Island Bed floorplan, 25 feet, no slides.
And there you have it! A great find there NoVa RT! You do have to pass through the dinette, a compromise of sorts. You decide the priority.

Phoenix USA used to offer a walk-around double bed in the 27 foot range, but the bed was positioned sideways inside a slide out. It was named model 2700.

Telstar in the early 90s had a short walk-around rear bedroom without a slide out. But I am going way back.

I had my heart dead set on a 24 foot for my first C. Spent 4 months looking for one that had a walk around bed...they do NOT exist.

They all have that corner bed with the corner bathroom.

Trust me YOU won't want one of those either. First you can't make it without crawling all over it like a monkey.

And if there are two of you someone has to crawl over the other to get in bed unless you have a strict regiment where one person has to get in so the other can lay down.

And I think you get the drift what happens when the person next to the wall has to get up in the middle of the night for whatever. :W

    I've got a 2007 Winnie that's 28 and has a queen in back.
You can kind of shuffle around both sides.
This would be a BIG step up from a B in driveability though.
