Thor 23u vs sunseeker 2300

Hi, interested in trading out my fun mover 39c for something smaller, the 23u and 2300 seem anot right, how his quality? Want it on a e450 chassis, will need to on occasion tow 5,6k lbs. Downside I see to the Thor is the step up to bed is close, so getting down from bed at night to the rear may be a bit of a stretch. Does the Thor or sunseeker have enclosed hookups? I recall seeing a sunseeker 2500ts that did. Nice to have for cold weather.

How are these as far as durable? We tend to keep 10,12 years at a time. Both have the new azdel in them I believe?

Any thoughts appreciated

Thanks
  • The Sunseeker indeed has a crowned roof, but they do have seems at the top edges. I wish they would have run the fiberglass over the sides and had only side seams, but we've had zero issues with ours up topside.

Both are probably fine builds, but we all need to pay attention to those seams to ensure their integrity.
  • Ok,
To close out this thread I settled on the 23u. Came down to price, availability for the 450 chassis. I climbe up on a sun seeker fiberglass roof also, and found the fiberglass weak in spots, easy to bend or crack , very thin. The tpo Thor roof was solid everywhere I checked. Really didn't see much quality difference besides the sealed holding tanks on the sunseeker. Cabinets are low quality in both e450 same in both, and very few out of state usnseekers available when I bought.

I did notice online several 120k plus Thor models, no sun seekers. That might not be a ding on sunseeker, maybe not enough of them out there, but the Thor models with high mileage still looked serviceable.. as was my funmover.

    Thanks for the tips.
  • Thanks for the info..was under impression Thor used azdel now. We have a fun mover 39c for almost 12 years now, replaced the rubber roof ($7500 job) no leaks, got it be for it could get me. Thing I didn't like about the Thor was the rear step up so close to the bed. The sunseeker had more leeway getting in and out of bed at the back, may or may not be an issue for my arthritic wife. I liked the extra barrel chair for the Thor tho, extra place to sit, move around if wet, rainy outside. Alai the main door is further back from the cab over section, likely providing a more solid frame, all things being equal. (In our fun mover the cab over isn't connected to the truck cab, causing issues. Not sure that could be problematic with these shorties but ..)

Hoping to tow 5k lbs or a bit more.

    It isn't crowned

That's odd. The current features list on the site does not say crowned, but the 2017 brochure says "crowned fiberglass roof". Hard to believe going flat would be a 2018 "improvement", but who knows when it comes to things most people don't know or care about.
  • I would lean towards the Sunseeker because it has a fiberglass roof. It isn't crowned, but it is better than nothing.
  • I just checked the Sunseeker 2300 specifications - and it's a winner as far as the specs go.

Regarding it's fiberglass roof - from the Sunseeker photo I can't tell if it's fiberglass roof is crowned (for extra strength) and has rolled-over edges all along each side (for no sidewall leaks, every, where they join the roof).

However, beyond just the specs, there's a whole lot of other things that could be checked on if one wants to be very thorough in their Class C shopping.
  • Thor Chateau 23U - no Azdel, TPO roof, E350

Forest River Sunseeker 2300 - Azdel, fiberglass roof, E450
  • Surprised. . No one knows any difference of forest river, and thor?
