Thor ACE 27.1 - used (2015 or 16) gripes or praises?

We are thinking of buying one of these due to the layout and we need to upgrade from a 24 foot class c now that we are full time.

Does anyone have any input to add to this?

  • I has an 2017 ACE 29.3 for a season and a half. We wanted to down size from a 35' 5th wheel. Well we down sized to much!

For weekend trips the ACE would be ok but for longer trips 3-4 weeks there just was not enough storage space. Space for cloths, food that type of things. The out side bays really had no room also at least for the important items. We ended up getting out of the ACE for our older DP with more space than we can fill up.

Now for the quality. All of the appliances are the same as every other unit on the road. The ACE has a lot of just little things to save money. Our paneling kept coming off the studs. In stead of staples I put them back with screws. The workmanship just was not there. To get to a water heater value I had to remove a piece of panneling under the sink. One would have thought a little access door or something would have been nice.

One of our biggest complaints was the black holding tank was only 26 gal. we could deal with that sort of. But then found out the bathroom sink drained into the black tank.

Would I buy another one most likely not
  • We had an ACE and while we loved it, I would agree with some comments here. It's a great entry level MH but after 5 or 6 years the lack of quality really starts to show through.
  • I've never owned one, but we have very close friends (full-timers) that did, and they said they'll never go back.

Buying a 6-year old Thor product is kind of like buying a 6-year old Fiat 500 or Mitsubishi Mirage. They're pretty much spent by then. Our friends had issue after issue with theirs, and they actually bought it new (kept it less than a year, then unloaded it).

Personally I'd look for a brand with a better reputation (Newmar, Winnebago, Tiffin, etc.) If you're trying to stay within a specific budget, you might need to look at one slightly older than a '15 or '16, but in the long run I think you'd be better off.

Let's see what others have to say.

    Happy travels!
