So far so good on my upgraded slide. In my opinion, they should be doing yours for free, because everyone under the sun knows the original mechanism has the problems you are experiencing. I have another trip this weekend, I'm hoping for the best.
For your information, one tech did all the work to change mine over, in my driveway, with lunch and a few breaks, in one day. Your shop should be able to do the same.
There is one good thing about these, in a pinch you can use them with the slide retracted. We used ours once while we were waiting on repairs, it's not too bad.
