thoughts on our 2019 Rubicon

Mechanical old school ignition switches do fail. I have been driving 40+ years and have replaced 2 in my lifetime.
Sorry but the idea that the button could fail while valid is no reason not to have keyless start.
I have 2 vehicles where there is a key but the car cranks itself. You turn the key to start and the car does its on cranking you do not need to hold the key.
It's 2019 keyless start is a great feature.
All you need to do is have keys in proximity to the car. Keys can stay in your pocket or purse. Very convenient.

push button start hasn't been around for 55-yrs. but i've had several electrict/electronics fail...radio, power windows, rear window defroster. not against new stuff, ideas. just think there needs to be a plan b. wife's liberty has remote lock/unlock but one door still has and 'old fashioned' door lock. oughta be all doors but one is better than none.

A key fob is no different technology than a chipped key; it just doesn't have the mechanical pins and tumblers or equivalent mechanical doodads to get crudded up, break down, wear out, etc. Instead, you have a much more mechanically robust (or at least potentially more mechanically robust) pushbutton. The chances of it breaking down are lower than a mechanical key.

On most if not all systems, if the battery in the key fob dies, you can still use it to start the vehicle through passively powered RFID technology; it just needs to be placed in a specific spot in the vehicle for the communication to work (rather than being anywhere in your pocket or whatever). If the vehicle battery dies, of course, you aren't starting your engine without help no matter what the key setup looks like.

been driving for nearly 55-yrs. never had a key break. never. if the chip goes bad a call to the wife results in a key. not a call to a tow and a $100+ tow bill.

What's your plan B if the mechanical key breaks? Or if the chip in the mechanical key breaks?

I didn't like it much to start, but it is really functional, just carry the module, and push the button.

You can still lock the jeep just like always, ,module has three buttons, lock, unlock, and find me alarm.
Plus a door key when / if the battery is dead.

Some of us need to come into the year 2019. Keyless ignition is here to stay. THe push button is just an ignition switch that does not require a key. The fob must sync electrically with the car to allow the car to start. No different than pressing a remote button to unlock the doors.
Thieves have been breaking ignition switches with screwdrivers for years. The keyless is using electronics to secure the car vs. a mechanical lock. The electronics are now harder to defeat vs. the screwdriver.
Keep up with the advancements or you will be left behind.
3 in a tree was a great way to manually shift a car once upon a time, Cars continue to advance and improve.

sounds like plan b in the event of a push button start failure is to call a tow truck. well, used cars are always an option.

Don't know if it still applies but watched a you tube video of the keyless started with the fob left it at start drove off jeep still ran drove a few miles away turned jeep off would not restart. Mite be something you want to check. Be a bummer to loose it on the trail.
