thoughts on this C

The Mercedes is expensive to repair. Having owned older Mercedes Diesel's and being a mechanic myself, I have found the local shops to be way expensive. Personally, I feel more comfortable with a Ford V-10 and access to help if I need it while traveling.
If there are savings in fuel consumption I believe it will be gobbled up when servicing and maintenance needs arise.
