After many years of thinking about it, I've decided to order a new Tiger CX this coming year. What points should I be aware of? What hings to avoid, options to choose, etc? Any and all information and suggestions would be helpful. Also, did any of you trade in your RV at the dealer? What kind of discount from the MSRP? Thank you.

Being a specialty manufacturer I would be surprised that you will get any discounts.As far as options? Get what you want the first time if your going to be spending that much money, no reason to skimp on something you might want.

Mockturtle, You are a very experienced RVer, so use that experience to prepare for your Tiger purchase. Think about what you use and don't use in your current unit. Are you planning to tow a vehicle like you do now?I bought my CX new in 2006. At that time they were ordered from the factory only, no discounts. The model names and specifications have changed greatly since that time. Look at the current Tiger Adventure Vehicles website for info.If you choose to order from the factory, decide what features you want and don't want. I had a number of "standard" items deleted (generator, microwave, rooftop A/C, and television) for credit, then spent that credit on a larger engine and 4WD. I don't know if you can do that now. I doubt that the factory will accept a trade-in.If you buy from one of the dealerships, you will probably have to buy just like any other new vehicle. Accept what they have on the lot and try to negotiate.

To echo Handbasket, look at the Tiger website, they often have finished vehicles, new and used, in stock, and often offer discounts if you use one of their bare trucks. Whichever way you go, Tiger is a wonderful company to work with.

Where to start? Bear in mind that my purchase was 8 years ago, and that I've not really kept up with all the changes Mark's made. I've been really happy with mine, and most of the changes I'd suggest are 'detail'.Price: I got about 10-15% off list, but that was buying at the factory from Dave before they had dealers, under the old pricing. I basically got a loaded, all options chassis & coach for the base price. You'll have to decide among Dodge, Ford, or Chevy, cab length & trim, and diesel or gas. If diesel, you'll have an LP Onan. I'm happy with my std cab Chevy gasser:Detail changes I'd make, allowing for what I know has already been changed by the factory: Move the generator start panel into the cab access opening where it's reachable when driving (assumes std cab) so the Onan can be warmed up before you park. This would let you start the A/C immediately when you stopped; good if you travel with pets. Move the heat thermostat to where it's reachable from the overcab bunk, or get one with a remote. I'm pretty sure they've added more AC & 12V outlets already. I specified a MaxxFan 5100K instead of a Fantastic Fan for the overcab bunk vent; I'd add a powered vent for the shower. I'd get the roof painted, if they don't now. waxing the gelcoat 1-2X/year is a chore. Delete the 'roof rack' if so equipped. No oven unless you're really going to want baked goods; this gives you a big cabinet.Big change: I'd try to get the CX fiberglass top put on the taller TX body; dunno if it's possible but think so. This would let you have the larger thermopane awning windows of the TX in the main area, but give you the slide-open windows in the overcab bunk ( AIUI, TX's do not open there). The awning effect of the TX windows give you needed ventilation in the rain when parked; the bunk sliders give you good ventilation at night. Just a quick update... there are several new / demo / lightly used Tiger on the 'Inventory' list at www.tigervehicles.com. There's one at a dealer in California, another in Canada.

(I have no financial interest in this, just a happy owner for the past 8 years.)

Joe, thru about '08, the Tiger CX was only available on the Chevy Silverado chassis, tho' there a rare few from the '90's on Dodge chassis. The local Chevy dealer serviced my '06 CX in his truck shop, just as he did with my previous 3500 Express van class B.

But now the new Tiger buyer specifies a choice of Dodge, Ford, or Chevy; 2WD or 4WD; cab length & trim level; SRW or DRW; and any engine/transmission/options available in a 1-ton pickup.

There are 2 models of the 'basic' Tiger, Bengal CX or TX, pretty much similar except for headroom and windows. Then there the Malayan LT and HT, and the larger Siberian.

That's correct. Not ALL Ford dealers are set-up to work on Ford's heavy duty trucks, which the E Series is. They draw the line at pickup trucks, which the Chevy Tiger uses from it's appearance.

Mock, CX scaled a couple of hundred pounds below GVW (9200#) when fully stocked with food & clothing for a multi-day trip (about 10 gallons of water, empty black and gray), including me and the cat. That includes the big heavy 8.1 & Allison, the Onan, and the roof A/C. Plus I tend to carry a lot of tools, some books, and other stuff. That's on a 2500 chassis, so there should be lots of unused weight capacity on a 3500. If you're traveling with a pet, I really suggest the Onan.

You might consider having two Fantastic Fans instead of A/C. I know a Tiger owner in WA who has multiple animals (dog, cat, parrot) and sets one fan to blow in and one to exhaust. No A/C. Haven't heard any complaints from her about this setup.

Hey, mum! Yes, there are a lot of things to consider before I order. Even though I've been studying Tigers for many years, I have to decide what the essentials are (not much CCC to work with). It sounds like I may be able to work in a generator. I'm sure you had to make some important decisions before ordering your Libero.

Hey Mock!! So exciting that you are finally making the jump. As I read this thread, one thought was that traveling with a dog, you might need the generator to run the AC. (90% of my generator usage has been for the mutt) I too would miss the propane to run the fridge.
