Time to hang up the keys...(consignment ?)

I'm nearing age 80 and feel that my reaction time and other age related deficiencies are telling me that it's time retire from motor home driving. I do not look forward to 'hanging up the keys' but recognize that it's in my (and possibly others) best interest to do so. I'm hesitant to advertise the sale of our motor home on Craigslist and have begun to think about contracting with Camping World to sell it on consignment. Probably, financially, consignment would be the least desirable way to go but for 'ease of sale' probably the better way to go. BUT, I've not yet discussed this with CW and would like to first hear back from those of you who have consignment experience particularly with CW. Were you satisfied or the opposite? In advance, thanks to all who respond.

  • If you have decided to get out of RVing altogether, then selling it on consignment is wise. Craigslist is difficult at best with the scammers and unqualified. PPL Motorhomes in Texas is the best place to sell on consignment.

However, if you still want to RV, why don't you consider trading the motorhome for a Class B van conversion. AS easy to drive as a car, yet still a real RV!

Keep the MH. Park it in a Seasonal site and keep on camping!! I pay
$1700.00 per year in Eastern MA. $2400 -$3600 will get you a very nice spot. You can also buy a lot in an RV resort. Lots of options.

This has my vote!!! This is the best of both worlds! Enjoying all the pleasures and fun of RVing without all the driving. I have friends in Ariz. at a nice RV resort park their RV on a yearly basis who don't even drive to the Park but rather just fly into an airport and then rent a car:):):)
  • I just sold my old one on Craigslist. Got what I asked but I had to drive it 200mi to its new home. Pretty seamless deal but you need some skills at sorting out the tire kickers.

    Big, BIG, huge mistake.

While you will take a "hit" with any consignment sale, CW likely will be much worse than most others......given their track record with everything else.

You live in Florida, where there are literally hundreds of RV dealers, sometimes within a few miles in some areas.

There MUST be a better alternative.

I am nearing the same decision point next spring......and haven't decided what to do yet either. I think I will talk to RV Swap Shop first. There is one near to me.

  • I haven’t consigned at PPL Motorhomes in Texas (yet) but their communication with me was excellent.
  • Camping world does not have your best interest at hand. I'm still waiting for a call back on a bunk house MH we were looking for. They told me it was impossible to find one at the price we were looking at. 2 weeks later we fond one in Indiana at a small family owned dealer for a couple thousand less than what we were looking for. Looks like new.
I would look for a place close by that knows how to sell RV's.
