This is not surprising on this forum but please tell us why someone who has a different idea than you is "crazy". I have 1800 sq ft and no I wouldn't choose 400 when my kids were home but we did have 3 kids in 900 sq ft why would I think those who choose different than me are crazy? I do believe my parents and their parents grew up in very small houses and had 6 to 10 kids. I never heard them complain about the house size and they seemed happy.
