Yes, they have to be (should be) declared, when returning home. They ask about the $ value of the goods that you are bringing back to Canada, sometimes they get more specific. On a recent trip, we asked if we had made any changes or modifications to the MH.
You may be able to 'legally' bring them back by using your duty free exemptions.
Many years ago, we were questioned about the new looking tires on the car, explained that they had been replaced before starting on the trip.
