Tire insurance?

I am considering a trip of about 2200 miles next month. My DW is concerned about not having some type of road service insurance if we blow a tire. Is anything like this available? If so, who do you use and what is the cost?

  • GOOD SAM has always come through for me. BUT I CARRY A mounted spare.
At least carry a spare even if unmounted
It is easier for Good Sam and Coachnet to come mount and install your spare (yes a big MH tire can be mounted at the side of the road) than to find a place that happens to have the size you need then come mount and install. On a weekend in the desert well nigh impossible sometimes.
    Be prepared.
  • I have insurance on the sets of tires I bought at America's/Discount Tire Store. It was an extra $16 per tire and covers road hazards and workmanship for the useable life of each tire. Also includes free air pressure checks and periodic tire rotation. I've used it a couple of times for nail punctures and once for a bulge. Tires fixed or replaced and balance at no extra cost.

You won't find insurance for tires. You will find road side assistance which is not insurance. In the event of a blowout they will dispatch someone to change your tire, if you don't have one they will bring one. Road side assistance will pay for the service call, but you pay for the tire. There is no such thing as tire insurance as far as I know. But RSA and Insurance are 2 very different things.

The 2 main RSA for RV's is Coachnet and Good Sam. I prefer Coachnet but many swear by Good Sam. I am sure you'd be fine with either.

    Sound advise

AAA does not do a good job with RV's

  • The tires on the coach are 5 years old and still in great shape. I have no reason to believe I will have any trouble. I will give coachnet a call and see what they have available. Thanks.
  • CoachNet is what many use but that only covers a service call, towing if needed, and a tire change. It does not cover the cost of the tire itself.
Many of the various tire manufacturers have road hazard coverage but usually the restrictions are too complicated to be used when you are stuck at the side of the road 100 miles from the nearest town. In any case, IF you keep the tire, and can get it to an AUTHORIZED dealer for that brand, you MAY get some pro-rated relief.
