Tire life expectancy

My brother fixes things when they break, and when the inside rear tire let loose at 65 mph on his class C, he bought not only tires,, but $1500 in body repairs. I changed my tires when they were 7 years old, prior to an August trip from Texas to Reno, NV. No worries, no problems.

my rule is 5 years max for rv tires

I have 19.5 Goodyears that are 14 years old, with 35,000 miles. No cracks ect. Keep in side and tires inflated to the max side wall psi.

You asked a very interesting question! Tire life depends on many factors. I suggest that you visit Michelin Tires website and go to there Quality Tire Care section to learn how to properly maintain a motorhome tire. One mistake that you already made is using petroleum products on your tire. The Michelin website will explain to you how this will effect the life of your tire and how petroleum products brake down the rubber of a tire. Michelin says on there Quality Tire Care Website, to clean your tires with warm soapy water and a scrub brush only! I've done everything on tire maintenance that Michelin Tires Website said to do and, I was able to get 10 years out of my last set of Michelin Tires. I just had a new set of Michelin Tires put on 2 weeks ago and, I expect to get another 10 years on my new tires. I also had a tire expert inspect my tires every year after the tires reached 5 years of age, and I ran for ten years a higher tire air pressure 100 lbs. then Michelin recommended they recommended 90 lbs. I'm a retired trucker and I ran 100 lbs. on my semi tires with success so I tried it on my motorhome and it ended up being a success for me. And someone already mentioned Motorhome Magazine they had an outstanding article on Michelin Motorhome tires in there August 2010 issue. Good Luck and Happy Trails.

I should buy new tires as mine are 10yrs. Old. They are Bridgestone. They have no cracks at all in the sidewall nor around the labels. Can't say the same for my previous tires which were Michelin. Since fuel has gotten so expensive I haven't been using the motorhome much. I let it sit parked for six months and each tire lost about two pounds of air pressure.

We replaced our eight 2006 Michelin tires a month ago (7.5 yr. old tires with 57,700 miles) through the FMCA Michelin tire program (295/80R/22.5) ZXA2 Energy tires.

I was given $50 credit each for the take-off's and the dealer said that they were in good shape. I now have piece of mind sense I'll be putting 7,300 miles on our current summer trip (1,800 miles into the trip now).

I too store indoors. My first set of Michelins were changed out at 10 years. The tire tech said they were in great shape and could easily have lasted another year. The second set of Michelins were replaced at 11 years of age. When dismounted, there were no signs of cracking on the inside of the tire. Whether the tire is new or not, I inspect them closely before any trip. I also maintain 90% of max tire pressure which reduces sidewall flex and improves tire life IMHO.

We just replaced our Michelins after 50,000 miles and a date code of 5/03. Just a few tiny cracks around the rim, but after 10 years, I figured it was time.
