I got one after my second low tire.
The first I caught before it was TOO low.
The second one had damaged the tire but not come apart.
It's a judgement call. You don't NEED the monitor but without it you DO NEED to check your tires at every stop (visual) and once a day with a gauge.
Unless you have a trailer, you will KNOW immediately if you have a real blowout. You should also know if you throw a tread without immediate pressure loss (yes that happens). That means that EVERY time you hear a sudden loud noise you should stop and check it out ASAP.
So.....what it does for you is alert you to a slow leak before it becomes low enough for a sudden failure.
I personally think the odds of that are less than 50/50 but I've had it happen twice.....because of incompetent tire technicians both times.....so I now have a monitor.
If your budget is tight, I do not think you will be doing anything wrong by NOT having a tire monitor.
