There's nothing wrong with truing a tire. I've had it done several times. But, as others have suggested, do try a simpler alternative first. When we purchased our present coach, an '04 Horizon 36GD with the C-7 330 CAT, we flew from San Diego to Reno NV to pick it up. Within the first few miles of smooth 395 freeway, I felt quite a bit of vibration in the front end. Well, I was not going to drive 500-600 miles with that going on.
So, long story short. The tires were only ten months old and were under a warranty from Les Schwab. So, in Carson City, I contacted a L/S tire dealer and told them of the problem. They said come right in. We parked the coach in the stall and stood back and watched. The tech removed the front two tires and wheels.
He placed them on the balance machine and noticed something wrong, right off the bat. He said, the tire is not on the rim correctly. So, he deflated it, rotated it just a tad and, re-inflated it. He'd already removed all the weights that the original installed had placed on there. When it was all said and done, that tire and wheel needed about 1/3 of the weights that the original installer installed.
He checked the other front tire and found the same exact thing. He said it's really rare to find TWO tires mounted incorrectly on a 22.5 setup but, it happened on mine. WE got back on the same stretch of freeway and, smoooooooooooth as glass.
But, I've had other situations that, the tires were UN TRUE. So, I had them shaved or, "trued" and, again, smooooth as glass. So, the point, there are some "out of round tires" out there. If you're unlucky enough to acquire one or more, two choices, exchange them for ROUND tires or, get them shaved.
