Tires for a Class A Motorhome

Sorry to hear about Cooper Tires. They were a long time USA maker, but as long as they keep making tires in the USA, they are OK. I bought a set for my tow car last summer and they are good tires at a fair price. Besides wanting to employ USA workers instead of workers in other countries I feel that regulations in the US and higher worker standards gives you a safer product.

If you are in, and tend to travel in, areas where Les Schwab Tires have stores, I'd strongly recommend going there and getting their "house brand" Toyos. We've been in Schwab country for many years and have had fabulous service from them.

When we bought our rig in 2010, its Goodyear tires had a date of 2001 (the chassis build date at Ford). We did a shakedown trip for a few days and the ride was atrocious.

Our local Schwab store (without me asking) did a warehouse inventory check and found me a set of 6 Toyo tires that were only 6 weeks from manufacture. They threw in CRES valve stems and an alignment and I was out of there for less than $2400 (19.5 wheels). The ride quality on the Toyos was like night and day compared to GY. We're very pleased with them.

Our utilisation is such that they'll die of old age long before they wear out (5000 miles in three years), but that's the way with RV's.

No connection with Schwab except about 24 years as a customer.

This is correct Cooper Tires (India) sold to Apollo Tires, India 2 months ago for $2.5 Billion! Cooper still has a tire plant in operation in Akron, Ohio. Bridgestone Tire (Japanese) bought Firestones plant in La Vergne, Tenn. over 30 years ago. Michelin (France) so Goodyear is the last remaining U.S. Tire Co.

You are going to see more and more companies from other countries building all kinds of plants in this country since it has become a world economy. Since fuel prices have remained high, it is cheaper for them to build a plant in the U.S. then it is to ship it from their country to the U.S.

Don't rule out the best: Michelin But, BFG, owned by Michelin, is next on my preferred list.

Check the G670's for any 'rivering' issue as may be related to rig/inflation. Check inside duallies, that is where I put my 'rivered' G670's from the front when addressing my issues. Even though the edges are worn, they have been fine on non steer............knock on wood, I guess. But I will add that I did have a side wall belt break on front and put Michelin XZA2ENERGY's and did notice an improve smoooooooooooooooooooth quality ride from 50K miles on the G670's that were on the front from new. With the FMCA discount, intend to replace back 6 with Mich's soon.

I went with Hankook, so far I am very happy with them!
