Tires for RT

I have a R T 170, 2007. I had a massive blowout on 395 this
morning on way to E. Sierras.
You were helpful with last tires purchased: Yokohama Geolander
But model not made any more.
What are your current recommendations
, tire gurus? Will get all new tires when go home.
Now I'm going to sit by a creek! Thanks!
  • Just installed 6 new Geolanders two months ago. So there still there!
  • If it was a Geolander that blew out, why would you get them again? Were they load range E?
  • I'd give serious consideration to a tire pressure monitoring system... I can highly recommend the Truck Systems Technology unit (known by the letters TST). Blowouts usually caused by underinflation, which creates excessive heat build-up. I've had great luck with Bridgestone V-Steel 265's - came as original equipment on my 03C190P. After 7 (?8) years/50k miles, still looked new - replaced due to age, not wear. Replaced with same tire model. Have 55k on that set in past 6 years, still minimal wear. Imagine will get a 3rd set in the next year or 2! ST
  • Bridgestone V-Steel tires have been good for me too. Available by ordering for a good price at Walmart.

X2 on the Bridgestone V-Steels. The stiffer sidewalls improved the handling on my 2006 Roadtrek 170.
  • When I replaced the tires on our 2007 210P I went with Bridgestones like several posted above. The stiff sidewalls make a BIG difference on a B.

The tires were like new but age got 'em.

Do you store your vehicle inside? If not then I would think you would have sidewall cracking starting after a few years. I apply 303 treatment monthly to prevent cracking. I even apply it to the inner side when I go under the vehicle to change oil. I also use tire covers when the van is going to sit for a week or more.
  • Hurcules Terra trac AT2's are what I'm running on. Stiff sidewall, great traction , price, road hazard warranty. Hurcules
  • PeteCo - I'm lucky that when not travelling I can put the van in our barn. I also use Aerospace 303 on the tires, since while on the road it gets the UV exposure. No sign of weather-checking on either set so far. ST
