Agreed! Seeing as NASA has a reputation of paying rediculious money for standard quality stuff ($10,000 toilet seat anyone?) obviously they have proven Michelin is the best choice if you have money to burn. :B

For those of us who actually have to make good financial decisions and live within a budget there are probably better choices. :W

Michelin is only the best because Michelin says so. I have worn out countless sets of tires over the years and had good success with Michelin. I have had as good as success with other brands for alot less money. nuff said.

After reading all the stories about Michelin, who makes the size for my coach. I asked a few trucker buddies that own their trucks, and they all seem to say the Japanese tire makers make a quality tire. I plan on getting Sumitomo's, a slight different dimension from my originals, as my buddies seem to like them. The price is right too.

You need to tell us the REST of the story.

Almost every tire ever made will show some signs of "surface" cracking after a few years. That is tiny little hair line cracks that are no more than a millimeter or two deep.

That is more likely to happen if the tire is constantly exposed to heat and sunlight.

It is the DEGREE and location of the cracks that are important. If they stay tiny, it likely is NOT cause for concern.

That looks very much like what might happen if the tire contacted the sharp edge of a BIG deep pothole.....or similar at high speed. If the pressure was a bit low at the time, even more likely to have sidewall damage.

I am on my 2nd set of Michelins that have sidewall cracks at 3 1/2-4 years respectively. Michelin offered some compensation on the previous set. Now I am at less than 4years with cracks. They will be the last Michelins on my coach, to only get 4 years out of a "premium" tire is ridiculous. Probably Toyo will go on, but am also looking at Continental and Bridgestone.

I have had Michelin on my Motor Home since purchased New and replaced with Michelin when age required and have driven 61K with no problems.
