I have a 1996 Monaco Dynasty. I am now at the spot I have reserved for the winter. I saw three states by tow truck on my way from Ontario to Florida. I left Ontario on November 5th and did not arrive to my winter designation until November 22nd. I was at three Cummings shops who do Coach Care and I still have the same breakdown issue which is the RV will lose power completely and come to a complete stop. The engine will still run but no power to go forward. If I had brought with me on my trip a electric battery charger and charged up the 4D batteries I never would have broke down as the 8D batteries always kept their charge. It appears that the RV is running on the 4D batteries rather than on the 8D batteries. I have an appointment at Alliance Coach in Wildwood this Tuesday to not only look at the s problem but also since I left Ontario I have no D.C. power. I have spent a great deal of money over the past year. I don't think I was being smart at all but hopeful that at each turn I was hoping that the last fix would be the last for awhile. I will never get my money back and I have resolved myself to that but I am too nervous now to drive the RV home after the winter as the breakdowns have been more than stressfully. I am now considering selling the RV while in Florida as I have to stop being stupid. It is with hesitation as I still have some hope although not that much anymore. Your thoughts please as I value your comments.

don,t no about diesel ,s but it sounds like your dc problem could be causing your real problem.I,d have another cup,and wait it out.

I have followed your trials and tribulations over the last year. Fortunately you did not go to California by tow truck. I estimate you have put $60,000 into your motorhome in the last year. I would not give up now as I think your battery charging issues go back to the alternator and isolator replacement... Not done properly. Alliance is a good choice but let them know what has been done electrically... New alternator and isolator. For 3-4 years it sounds like you did not have all of these electrical problems, at this point I think you're over the hump on spending money and solving this electrical problem should not be that expensive. Easy for me to say although I probably would've thrown in the towel before fixing the rust problems. Good luck and hang in there a little longer as now that you are retired it will be worth it.

Sounds like some basic electrical troubleshooting is needed. Not that complex.

Now having time on your winter spot, get good mobile electrician to your rig. Mechanics not knowing technology can really milk unknowing customer. I just bough Mercedes convertible for $1300 because PO had transmission in electronic limp, what was followed with bids for transmission replacement from shops. I know those cars, so for me it was $12 plug adapter (leaky orings) plus can of electronic cleaner and the car was back on the road. Just like that.

I would give it some time. You've got all winter. Meet with Alliance and even call out a Mobile Mechanic over the next month. See what they say. If you sell it now, you don't have a place to live for the winter - nor a vehicle to get you back to Peterborough (great town! - was lucky enough to see Willie P at the folk festival about a year before he died). Just breathe and relax for a while and enjoy the warmth. Then you can make a decision based on reality and not stress.

I don't know if new is your answer. I have a 2015 and I'm having issues with it. If a company would come out with a unit that was built with Quality, Pride, and integrity it would become the best selling unit on the road. They build as cheep as possible just to sell.

Difficult decision. At the moment the thought of heading north to home is a drive into the unknown and a heavy burden. The problem is if you pick up a new or new to you coach more or less you'll be in the same situation, an untested, unknown coach. What i would do, if my current coach supports me travel/living plans I would get the power problem fixed and keep what I know and have.

Don't know if you have figured out your problem. From the comments I could also not tell if this is an electrical issue or an engine issue. Twice in the past year we have been traveling on the road around 60 MPH and suddenly the power went away. When slowed to 20 MPH we could just barely move. Took it to the CAT repair. Problem was two sensors. One reads barometric pressure and the other altitude density.
We had this problem diagnosed and the first repair shop told me of the problem and replaced ONLY one of the sensors. The problem happened again 9 months later. This time a full CAT dealer said, they diagnosed the problem correctly but the manufacture say even if only one sensors fails or is acting up, BOTH sensors must be replace. The repair bill was $1400 however the dealer, HOLT CAT in Sacramento CA was able to get CAT to warranty the work of the other dealer and it cost us $310. Yes, $310...you read it correctly.

Why not stop at Harbor Frieght and pick up a battery charger?

I would put together a spreadsheet that shows a comparison of the costs of keeping the coach you have vs getting another one. I would look out as many years as you intent to keep RVing. I did that and it was obvious I was better off keeping my older motorhome than buying a new, much smaller one.
