for the first 18-years we did not tow a car. initially it was partly a financial situation...just couldn't afford to either buy a vehicle we *could* tow or outfit the car. we made do with the MH. it was a 26' class A and we simply did our shopping before stopping for the night. we drove it to tours, stores, malls, etc. and generally had no problems. but as the years went by it became more of a pain to break camp, unhook and then put everything away. we also, occasionally, rented a car but that soon became a PITA. we must've rented cars maybe half-a-dozen times and except for one occasion near Walt Disney World we had to go to town to pick up the car or if the rental company came to get us we had to then drive back into town to drop off the rep and to sign the papers. then the reverse was true when we turned the car in. PITA.
we bought a new 35' MH in 2000 and we still weren't towing. parking a 26' MH was one thing...parking a 35' was another. the parking itself wasn't any harder but the options were sometimes reduced. 3-years later, when we were shopping for a new car to replace a 13-yr old minivan, we decided that enough was enough...apparently it takes some people longer. ;) we chose a jeep wrangler becauswe, among other reasons, we could flat tow it with zero modifications and no speed/time/distance restrictions (i'm also a jeep nut). well...what a difference. it was soooo much nicer, easier and relaxing to have a toad with us.
having a toad allows us to be more spontaneous and it also serves as a life boat if need be. my wife can take off on a shopping trip while i'm taking a na...er, working hard back at the campsite. trust me...you're going to want to have a car with you. you won't regret it.
