We don't tow at present, and it hasn't been a problem for the three seasons we've been out there. We can't dolly-tow our '03 Kia Sedona because it weighs 4800 pounds and a dolly for a car that heavy would be expensive and would push us way over the hitch limit of 5000 pounds. It would be over $3K to modify the Sedona for flat towing, and I'm reluctant to spend that much on a car with 100,000 miles on it that's worth about $1500 on a good day!
We aren't "stay for a week" people. It's rare for us to spend two nights at the same CG, so we do our sightseeing and grocery shopping while we're en-route somewhere.
When the Kia gets too old and unreliable, we'll be looking for a lighter car that is flat-towable, either already modified or without the need for modifications, but it will have to be a wagon with room for two Labradors. Since DW can't drive a stick-shift, it will have to have an automatic transmission.
Incidentally, does anyone know if the Saturn LW300 wagon (auto transmission)is flat-towable without mods as the S-series Saturns are? Since it's based on a Vauxhall/Opel design (maybe even imported from Germany and re-badged) I'm not sure.
