Toilet not holding seal

Yes this one is for you Dennis. I know - what are you doing with a seal in the toilet. After the coach sitting without use for awhile I noticed the anti freeze had drained from the bowl now water drains in a day. I assume the seal needs lube. Would I just put some pink stuff in the bowl and let it sit or is there another way.

  • Olive oil has worked for me for years. Never had to replace a seal yet.

Where do I find these extra virgins? How OLD are they?
  • I took the advice with olive oil and it seems to have fixed it. Now for the salad. Thanks everyone.

I just went through this with mine leaking. I tried cleaning the grove with a bent tip screwdriver which has worked for me in the past. Tried olive oil and Vaseline. After playing with it for 2 days I pulled it out of the MH and dissembled it thinking that the seal needed replacement because it was 16 years old. What I found was a hard buildup of something brown and scaly looking. It actually scored the blade. After removing the hard build up from the plastic housing, blade and seals I reassembled with Vaseline and it has been holding water for a week.
  • Not all toilets have a knife valve that seats into the seals. Some have a ball the rotates under the seal. Either need cleaning and sometimes things will help, but eventually need to be replaced.

    Or 'toss your salad' HAHAHAHAHA

Seriously, clean the track where the knife valve seats, and lube the seal as already posted...eventually I had to replace our seal. Not a fun project, but not all that difficult either.

X2 Nice clean lubricant that is safe for the seal, will make it very pliable and is great for long term storage.

Clean the seal thoroughly then rub top/bottom with the olive oil.
Close the blade/ball valve and then pour just enough olive oil into bowl to cover the seal.
  • I was able to stretch the life of my seal for about 3 years by pouring some ATF into the stool and letting it sit overnight. It does now need to be replaced, so it's a band aid and not a permanent cure.
