New to the RV world; filled with dumb questions. We're getting ready for our first trip in our new-to-us Itasca Navion, and need toilet, aka "terlet," paper. LOML read something online that said to test your regular household toilet paper in a bowl of water: if it dissolves, you can use it instead of special RV toilet paper.We're planning to use some of the additive for the black water tank; the RV even came with an eight-pack of it.We use single-ply Scott at home. I put a square of it in a bowl of water today, and four hours later, I couldn't even see it. I fished around and found a glop of paper fibers. Is this sufficient dissolving to qualify for RV use, or should the special RV paper be on the list when I go out shopping?

As long as it is septic safe your good to go. Lots of us use Kirkland brand from Costco with good results.

The Scotts is fine as are a number of other brands. But not Charmin.

Besides "Septic Safe", you might want to consider one other criteria for TP in your RV. Many TP brands and types are Septic Safe, but have ply counts varying from 1 to 3. We have found that there's less build-up and clogging in our RV's black tank if we use Septic Safe TP with only a 1 ply rating. It's of course thinner, but it still does it's main job while at the same time not putting so much paper bulk into the tank with each use. :)

As said before, anything 'septic safe' will work.

Some use the Geo Method in their tanks to help keep them clean and the sensors working properly.

Do yourself a favor; learn how they pipes are connected to the black tank. Know if the drain goes through one or more elbows. The straighter the shot the better. Have a thick pole (like 1" diameter) to poke down through the toilet if it gets clogged.

And, teach your people to use plenty of water when they flush.

We use this and we have never had a problem with it clogging the black water tank.
I think we have been using it ever since we bought our RV in 2006. Or at least we have been using Quilted Northern it seems like forever. What ever keeps "SWMbO" happy is what we use. Why buy two kinds of Toilet Paper? :h All it does is go down the drain :B.

I use good 2 ply paper.
It goes down a 3" pipe to the black tank and then gets whooshed out from full level/weight of liquids thru a 3" drain line.

Use what you like/use at home.

Horse pucky on RV, Septic safe, 1 ply TP.

Hi,

I have heard that you can put a little in a clear jar, add water and shake it up. If it dissolves by the next morning, it will work great!

I do not use RV TP, and never have.

one thing I always think about is, the thinner the paper the more you have to use to keep from having your , well you know, go through it. thus you use more of it.
