Took the 1997 Damon Intruder camping for the first time

I took my Intruder camping for the first time since buying it. Short trip 48 miles up the hill to the camp site. I live in the mountains about 16 miles as the crow fly's north of Yosemite. So this is the perfect test trip. I had to use the generator and all the systems. The generator worked pretty good it started to surge when I tried to use the electric fry pan and had the house lights on so I adjusted the carb on the Onan generator and it started to work better. I am home now so tomorrow I will run the generator and try to run the A/C to a load on it and see if it surges. Also the levelers didn't work I took the cover plate off The lights weren't coming on so I adjusted the three springs to get better contact and got the lights to come back on (Power on light and the low side indicator light. I had the parking brake on, trans in park and the key on acc. I moved the two small joy sticks and nothing. So I will have try troubleshoot this problem. I have a slide out and it worked is the hydraulic pump that runs the slideout the same pump used for the levelers?

  • Make sure the p brake is all the way down, push really hard on it, engine running. Check fluid level on pump, mine is on left side in front engine compartment.

  • Just a thought… there may be a switch from HWH on the parking break mechanism. If so, then maybe it is not being activated. My slides are electric. As said before, the two small sticks should be positioned as far away from the joystick as possible for lifting MH. They are used to lower the MH.
  • I have tried to get the levelers to work and nothing. I set the parking brake, I move the two smaller joy sticks then the big stick. I have the power switch on the power light comes on and the yellow light that shows the lowest side. I don't hear a pump come on. The rig has a slideout and it works so if the pump for side out is also used to work the levelers then I know it's not a pump problem. Is there a fuse between the control panel and the pump?

This is how my HWH jacks (similar vintage) work also. When you use the big joy stick to try to move them, it swings them down first, then they extend.

My RV sat for a while before I bought it. The first few times I used the jacks, they were a little finicky. I had to move the joy stick just right for it to make good contact and work. After using them several times now, they work exactly as I expect.

    Good luck!

It is a HWH and when I move the two small sticks I did move them and that should make the fold out then the big stick should cause them to extend. But when I move the small sticks the jacks don't move. I have the parking brake set and the trans is in park and I have tried with the key on the key off and the key on Acc.

  • We have to have our coach engine running when we use the jacks. Park brake on.

  • If the levelers are the manual HWH system you would need to move the two small levers out to close the front and rear valves. Then use the larger center lever to drive the jacks down, it's a 4 way lever rear/front/left right.
