- Boxer_LoversExplorerAny RV parks that have Safe Rooms to accommodate their guests AND their pets?
- GoldencrazyExplorerIf bad weather is not a consideration I agree on Hwy 54. We did it last year on December 2 and it was a great drive and sure saved miles going from Wisconsin west. We stayed in Liberal Kansas. Not much for campgrounds along the way.

Ok so we stopped by Albuquerque traveling east . We were to stay at the roadrunner rv park on Saturday and, In light of the weather, which is to continue through the weekend we want to reroute. We are traveling in a 32' Class A. Possibly heading northwest from here. Any roads to avoid? Oh and my husband is on oxygen so we want to avoid high elevations.
Never went that way, but I would try US 54 from Tucumcari to Wichita if you are headed NE. Keep your weather radio on as tree is severe weather predicted all through that area. - Dennis_M_MExplorerOK revising my advice 5:35 PM CDT: just watched the forecast for Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska - severe thunderstorms and potential tornados through Saturday. Stay put where you are in Albuquerque!

We have stayed several times at the RV park in El Reno, OK, which is a few miles west of Oklahoma City, right next to the interstate. The rest rooms/bath house, is a heavily fortified tornado shelter and it is right in the middle of where the RV's park. For that area I would never stay in an RV park that does not have a tornado shelter if a storm comes up unexpectedly.
Ditto!!!! And I'd want to be real close to it during the season and in "Tornado Alley".
Ironically, a reported death occurred when a shelter a woman was in flooded and drowned her. Go figure.
Good old El Reno!! We got Chased out of there by a snowstorm of all things a few years ago. We ran in the snow from Albuquerque the previous day and beleived we were far enough ahead of it to stop. Woke up at 5 a/m in a light snow and fled east. We saw on the news that nite that I44 was closed at Clinton due to snow and pileups.

Portions of two major interstates in Oklahoma are closed due to tornado debris in the roadway.
Oklahoma Turnpike Authority spokesman Jack Damrill said Wednesday that Interstate 44 is closed from Chickasha to Newcastle. A large storm that produced tornadoes, heavy rain and damaging winds tracked for several miles along I-44.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. John Vincent said traffic is being diverted at Chickasha and Newcastle.
Vincent also said Interstate 35 is closed at Tecumseh Road in Norman because of power lines blown down and across the interstate.
Vincent said southbound lanes of I-35 at Moore are closed because of an auto accident. He didn't know if the accident was related to the storms.
Didn't read thru the rest of it. Take a look at it all maybe it will assist you in keeping you safe as you travel thru.

I know how dangerous is can be in an RV. West Memphis a few years back and a tornado touched down in the CG and then ran behind CG I was in.
Lifted my MH up off the side wheels and slammed it back down. Took hours jacking it up to remove everything that blew under it. TT next to me flipped upside down.
I will NEVER stay inside an RV ever again, if I have time I am running for a CG bathroom hole in the ground or whatever but not inside the MH. - mtrumpetExplorerNasty, nasty, nasty! Hopefully (Prayers) the critically injured will come out of this OK. Parks can be re-built and RV's replaced, but human lives are a different story.
