- wny_pat1ExplorerThe Cummins 6CTA specs at sea level.

H.P.: 76 - 136 - 201 - 230 - 248 - 255
Ft #: 499- 713- 880- 863- 813- 745
But the Cummins C8.3 diesel engines are available up to 350 horsepower with 1050 lb.-ft of torque. It depends on how they were rated, or spec'ed when ordered. - wny_pat1ExplorerIt depends on the specific model of the 8.3 engine.
6C8.3 is Naturally aspirated
6CT8.3 is Turbocharged
6CTA8.3 is Aftercooled
C8.3 is Charge air cooled (intercooled).
I would much prefer the C8.3 to the later ISC or ISL. In my opinion, the newer engines have a major flaw - a computer controlled fuel system that like to throw out all kinds of codes. They run great without the computer and are easy to work on. Plus they get better fuel mileage than the computer operated engines. But it is no speed demon going down the highway or climbing hills. But she sure is a good dependable engine without that new fangled computer stuff. The non-computerized 8.3 engine will get you there and back as well and better than the newer ISC and will do it using less fuel. - FireGuardExplorer IIThanks for the info, I'll check the plate.
- ScottGNomadActually there's a plate on the drivers side of the timing cover that gives the eng s/n, HP and Torque ratings among other things. It's a black and silver metal label that's mounted vertically.
- wolfe10ExplorerWith the engine serial number, call Cummins tomorrow: 800 343-7357.
- 2oldmanExplorer IIWith the VIN perhaps that can be looked up.
- Sully2ExplorerIf its rated at 300HP...its 850. The 330 HP versions are rated at 950 and the 350 HP versions are rated at 1050
- ScottGNomadIt will be about 850 I suspect - or at least that's what my buddy's 2000 8.3 is.
