We are planning about the same trip in 19, only we would like to end up in New Brunswick Ca. before heading west again.

Well you could plan to tour Savannah, Charleston, Pawleys Island for Good sea food and Brookgreen Garden. Do yourself a big favor and skip Myrtle Beach unless you like a lot of shopping and places to take your money. Pawleys and points north area have all the beaches you could want. Asheville is a nice place to visit.

Please be aware most RV Parks close by the middle of October in Maine.
Normandy Farms is close to Boston.[Lots of historical things to see in that area] I think that is open most of the year with limited service. We like Lake George RV Park in Queensbury, NY. there is a lot to see in the Adirondack's. You visit Lake Placid. Ledge View RV Park has less to offer but much less expensive. In Maine just below Portland our favorite park is Bayley's RV Park in Scarborough, ME. [Big Rig friendly] There is a lot to see and do in that area. I will warn you RV parks up here are pretty expensive. They have to make all their money in 4-5 months.

Agree that you should plan your trip knowing that in the Northeast, from Md to New England, most RV parks close between October 15 and Nov. 15th. Most state parks from VA north do not usually offer full hookup sites either, or there are few of them.
We have been RVing along the East Coast for over 40 years. Florida has wonderful state parks, and many of them offer full hookups. Suggest St. Augustine. Very visitor friendly, much to do and so much history to enjoy. Very forgiving for those who do not enjoy strenuous exercise as well. Easy to walk around and enjoy. Same with Savannah.Our favorite. Great walking tours, incredible food (the Pink House!) very walkable and so very friendly. Skidaway State Park=great park with full hookups. Closer is Red Gate RV Park. Yes as well. Charleston is a must see. Take a Carriage ride, great food, enjoy a walking tour with Ed Grimball. Take the boat from visitors center to Ft Sumter.
Lived in Myrlte Beach area for 13 years. Skip it. Total tourism and very crowded. State parks there, however, are great (MB State Park and Huntington Beach SP). Both have limited full hookups and are on ocean side of highway 17.
In NC, try Wilmington area on the east coast, and if you want to go west, don't miss Asheville area. ONe of our favorite places. Good RV parks in area and so much wandering to do!

In Georgia, consider the Chattanooga area. Again, so much history and great sightseeing! Atlanta is a vibrant, very modern city that is not very RV friendly in any way. Back to the East Coast. Virginia. Do it all! Blue Ridge Parkway-not recommended in a large RV, but a great trip. Williamsburg and the whole 'Historic Triangle'(Jamestown and Yorktown included). Numerous campgrounds in the area and a great way to enjoy from Norfolk all the way to DC. Baltimore's Inner Harbor is so much fun! Don't miss Ft. McHenry if you go there - you may get to participate in the 'striking of the colors' ceremony done every day to lower the flag. I did it and it was incredible. Don't miss Gettysburg in south-central Pa. Take the time to reserve a licensed battlefield guide to get a great explanation of what took place there, and go to the visitors center to get a schedule of the Rangers' presentations. They are free and worth a fortune if you want to learn more. We like Anvil CG when we go there. From there you might enjoy a visit to 'Amish Country' in central Pa. Lancaster area has numerous CGs and the experience is very enjoyable. Your big rig may prove a challenge in many parks in the NE - many are older with smaller, tighter sites. Suggest you check our www.rvparkreviews.com for campers' personal experiences at many, many places. The 'Northeast Corridor' is tough traveling with a large RV. Philadelphia - New York City area there are few CGs (land is more valuable for housing) and traffic is a bear. Sorry, can't help much with north of NJ - but would suggest a visit to Adirondacks Mountain area in NY, and Lake Champlain region as well. Beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing. Wander west to Cooperstown NY area for baseball hall of fame, as well as several music festivals. Central NY state is awesome!

Might suggest checking out tourism sites for all the areas you want to visit. They all gladly send you their brochures, and it can give you a good overview of the area as well as info on campgrounds, etc. I do it all the time. Will agree that the cost of a night of camping in the Northeast may be very offsetting. Supply and Demand thing. If you could plan your trip outside of the typical prime season (Spring Break - April - Labor Day in September) you may find lower rates.

If you are interested in bluegrass music or the history of country music, check out the Crooked Road and the Birthplace of Country Music. It's a beautiful area and has lots of history, lots of music venues and lots of campgrounds.

I would shorten my stay in Gulf Shores and get to central Florida. January can be very chilly in GS and panhandle. You need to get to orlando and south for warmer temps. Head north in March.

Outer Banks of NC and Pigeon Forge Tenn come to mind
