Tow dolly without brakes

I will be renting a uhaul tow dolly for a trip I will be taking I am pulling it with a 1998 35 ft. Bounder the vehicle being towed is a Lincoln MKX I will be traveling at approximately 60 mph 400 miles each way does anyone see any problems with this setup
  • It occurs to me to wonder: Can the Lincoln MKX be towed on a dolly?
If it is front wheel drive, probably yes.
If it is AWD, probably no, unless the rear driveshaft is disconnected.
If it is rear wheel drive, quite possibly no, unless the driveshaft is disconnected.
OP, you need to read the Owners Manual to find out!
    Good luck.

They sell tow dollies without brakes. I have one. No title, no registration and no brakes. No saying it’s a good idea depending on what your towing but not illegal. Just toed a Honda Accord behind my class c 4000+ miles with no problems.
  • Surge brake are to cause accidents IMHO. I don't like them. Rent a trailer with brakes and drive it like you own it. You probably have the brake setup anyway.

What do you believe surge brakes are ?

    Maybe, maybe not...
In many states a car dolly is not required to be titled or licensed. It is not a trailer, therefore, and trailer braking laws do not apply.
I don't see how any state would allow a dolly to be rented if it had no brakes, and brakes were required by state law. Seems like it would be illegal to operate such a thing on the state highways!
  • I do! I do! The word “foolish” and “illegal” come to mind.

Rent the U-Haul Car trailer, it has surge brakes, and only requires a 4 pin connector for the lights.

You won't even know that big Lincoln is back there.
