Ain't electronics great? When Ford went to total electronics a few years ago, the transfer case "N" station was removed. Ford probably thought that so few customers use it....why have it? Maybe they're right....bur for those of us that want or need "neutral" for whatever...it is an inconvenience. And expense.
Depending of the type of key needed, a "conventional" ignition key without a chip is about 5 bucks. For the new laser-cut key.....as MIKESTOCK says....$90 ? Yep. I can see that. Consumer technology at it's best.
Why not leave the "regular key" (chipped key) in the ignition switch? Most likely to prevent theft of the toad. While away from the motorhome/toad combo, having lunch, for instance, it only takes seconds to unhook and go. At least that is why I run the non-chipped key when towing.
