Towing 2012 Ford fusion 4 down

Every time I tow, the car is put in neutral and the battery goes dead. This happens after a 3-4 hour drive. I know it has nothing to do with the Blue Ox braking system, as I have the same problem if not installed. The battery just dies in neutral and it is only way it can be towed. I plan to take it to Ford in the next few days, but does anyone have any insight.

  • I have 2011 fusion I have the same problem I also ran a charge line. the vehicle manual says you don't pull any fuses, but it says to restart the vehicle every 4 to 5 hours during your trip and that is the only way I have found to keep the battery from going flat, if you do find out something I would love to hear about it good luck

I do have a charge line hooked up to car & motor home.

Perhaps it is not installed properly, i.e. it is not working.

It has everything to do with your breaking system, they draw alot of juice. have a charge line hooked up from the coach to the car,
  • When I was towing my 2011 fusion hybrid I had a charge line put in so that didn't happen and I put in park at night and took the key out so not to discharge the MH
  • Cannot take ignition key out it is set back one click and cannot come out if it is in neutral. I did try to take the battery fuse out and it did the same thing
  • Turn the ignition back one click so it turns off the ignition.
  • Our previous Ford Edge dingy battery would sometimes go dead after a couple days of long towing. It did not have a navigation system. The Edge we have now has the navigation system and a dead battery has been much more of a problem. We had a charging line installed and, so far, everything is fine.
  • Do you take the key out of the ignition? We have a 2012 Ford Fiesta that we tow and all we have to do is put it in neutral, making certain the key is out. Just our experience. Have never had a problem since buying it when towing.
  • Does your owners manual say it can be towed 4 down, and if so does it mention the need for a battery disconnect switch?
