For taillights on a pickup.. For my 2008 Dodge Dakota I tow I use a full width LED light bar mounted under the tailgate. It uses a "flat-4" wire and has all lights (brake, turn signal, hazard, etc) and is VERY bright. I ran a flat 4 wire from front of truck that plugs into the RV flat 4 connector, works pretty well. AND when not plugged into the RV I plug it into the trucks OWN flat 4 connector for extra lighting.
Only issue for your setup may be having the tailgate down all the time. Could block it, possibly.
