There is a 60/40 weight ratio that is recommended....never go over 40 percent of the towing vehicle weight with a trailer. That does not mean weight rating but actual weight. That will create a unbalanced weight combination. The towing vehicle must retain the mass of weight.
Also the driveshaft is often the weak point in towing too heavy of a load especially if steep inclines are involved. A universal joint will pop or the shaft will twist.
