Towing an automatic Mazda miata

I just bought a 2000 four winds class c MH and would like to haul my 2002 miata w/ auto trans. Is it possible to use a car dolly for this?

Another possible option is to sell your automatic and buy a NC 5 or 6 speed manual, retractable hardtop. They are 100X more fun anyway.

A Miata is so low to the ground, would you be able to use a tow dolly - front or rear? As light as it is, I would think a trailer would be best... just make sure the trailer ramp(s) is suitable to get the Mazda up on it.
  • If I REALLY wanted to tow MY Miata on a dolly, I'd back it on, lock the steering wheel and go, after making sure that the nose was clear of the ground.

Note the words MY, and I, this is not a recommendation of what anyone else should do. But the again, I had my first, and LAST tow dolly experience in 1999.

In a word, "No". Trailer ONLY!

Read the thread that link pauldub posted. Your answer is there.

  • Check the owners manual to be sure whether or not you can tow it four down.
  • According to Remco it can only be towed on a trailer. That's for a standard transmission, so I doubt an automatic can be towed on a dolly.
  • The car owners manual almost always has a section telling about how to safely tow the vehicle.
