Towing Honda CR-V

OK, I bought a 2014 Honda CR-V to use as a toad. The manual has very detailed instructions on what to do to ready the CR-V to be towed after connecting the tow bars, but nothing on what to do to reverse the process when you disconnect.

Do I simply disconnect, shift to park and start the car back up and drive on my way?

I'd appreciate some other CR-V owners weighing in on their disconnect process.

Thank you!

  • We tow a 2003 CRV - have for years. We're real careful to do the shifting before we tow. When done, we start the engine, cycle through all the gears, and drive away. After 8 years, no problem. We did change out transmission fluid s little earlier than the odometer suggested (miles don't record when being towed). CRV has been a great toad for us.

  • Yep. That's what we do. We have a 2014 too. Just get in, start, go through the gears to lubricate the transmission, and go.

Nothing special required. I put it in park and disconnect. Don't forget to service the trans more often; every 30K I think?

Thanks everyone. I figured that there was nothing special to it, but it never hurts to make sure.

Yes, the manual says every 30K.

  • That's what I do. It might be a good idea to let it warm up before you tackle Pike's Peak.
